Only 38% of an oral dose of phenylephrine is competent to be used by the body. The elimination partially life is 2 to 3 hours designation that it only take 2 to 3 hours for half of the dose taken to be eliminate from the body. If a 10mg dose of phenylephrine is taken 3.8 mg will be distributed into circulation. In 2 to 3 hours half of that will be eliminate so only 1.9mg will be gone. For every 2 to 3 hours this will continue until the dose is completely removed. To sum it up, phenylephrine is not completely effectivewhen taken orally because it is poorly available to the body and it is metabolized and removed severely quickly.
After a week and a partly, the blood levels would not be detectable beside normal lab methods for quantification.
If GLC or HPLC is used, than residual level may be detectable.
