It depends where you are starting from. If you come to pass to be a general surgeon and will to upgrade then it would be around a two year program. If you are of late starting first grade next you would have relatively a long way to travel.

In the United States, I believe it's 7 years after medical school. Two years of standard surgery followed by 5 years of neurosurgery.
