It varies greatly depending the type of equipment contained by use (a .5 vs a 3 tesla MRI, etc), more powerful is quicker, and the type of study that will be done. A routine study that uses contrast takes more or less half an hour. It's not sore though, just loud.

Well I have an MRI a few months ago and it seemed to clutch forever! But I believe it was somewhat over an hour or so. And they also did a MRI on my back. So it might not bear as long for you.
